About the University
Founded by the Foundation for Education Development Sarajevo, IUS was inaugurated in the academic year of 2004/2005. It is located in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
International University of Sarajevo (IUS) is open to students from all over the world, and the language of instruction and communication is English. Students without English proficiency will attend a one-year intensive English Language Program organized by English Language School (ELS).
About the program
Why study Genetics and Bioengineering?
Genetics and Bioengineering is one of the fastest growing disciplines and there is an increasing need for geneticists and bioengineers shaped with contemporary engineering standards.
We aim to train open-minded geneticists and bioengineers, aware of local and global problems, and sensitive about ethical issues.
The program focuses on practical applications of theoretical framework supplied at the undergraduate level, building upon the research arm and developing industry-specific practices. Cooperation with the industry is one of the main aims of the program in order to add to solution-finding skills and a mindset of research-backed practicality.
In our program, develop an integrated scientific perspective comprising the fundamentals of molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and cell biology, all of which are built upon a solid background in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics.
Study Methods
Learn how to apply the principles and methods of engineering sciences to study biological applications and its problems. Gain an engineering foundation with emphasis on biochemical process applications.
Career Opportunities
Prepare yourself for a career in the emerging biotechnology industry, in businesses related to biotechnology, medical or pharmaceutical industry, and other positions in industry, commerce and academia or for continuation of your formal education at a graduate school.
My passion for science started very early. I took the entrance exam and started my studies at IUS program of Genetics and Bioengineering. Soon I realized this was the best decision since all lectures were in English and a lot of professors came from European universities, I personally was delighted that we could develop small projects for our master thesis and to explore the topics that we were interested in.
